Kanchenzonga, Trekking in Sikkim: the Indian Himalayas

View of Sleeping Buddha from Darjeeling

Suraj is your local guide and trekoperator for amazing trekkings and tours in the beautifull Northeast of India: Sikkim. He is a local guide, born in Yuksom (West-Sikkim). His father - Gjeta Chhetri - is also a very experienced guide. They know a lot about the cultures and the nature of the hills and mountains of the Himalayas. They speak Nepali, Hindi and English. Prices are cheap and the service is really great!

Yuksom is very near to the second highest mountain of the world: Kanchenzonga or as the local people call it: ''Sleeping Buddha''. It’s more than 8,5 kilometre high. The whole area is a national park with deer, bears, lori’s, over 500 species of butterflies and some 600 species of wild orchids. More than 50 species of Rhododendrons are found flowering in april. In the mountains you can drink from the water from the riverstreams, and when it’s cold the cook has to melt snow for your chai (tea).Mountains and Rhodondendrons in the National Park Kanchenzonga

Some possible trekkings are:
* Trek Yuksom 1676 m – Tsokha 2950 m - Dzongri 4030 m – Goecha la (5 to 11 days)
* Monasty- and Village Trek (for example Pelling, Ravangla, Tashiding, Jorethang, Rumtek)
* Green Lake Trek 4500 m (North Sikkim)
* Packaged tours through whole Sikkim by car

You can stay with a local family, to enjoy the local culture at best. It's also possible to learn nepali during your stay in Sikkim.

If you like to make a trek that passes through wildlife sanctuaries or national parks, you need a special permit. Suraj helps you arrange these permits.

The best seasons for trekkings are:
* septembre, octobre and novembre (really nice views!)
* march, april and may (flowering season and nice views)
